When you come to Awareness Counseling a thorough assessment is necessary to gain an understanding of you and your problems and customize a plan of action. I work collaboratively with you to create manageable objectives and ultimate goals to work towards and accomplish. Together we create a safe space for you to do the emotional work that is most helpful to you.

Our work together may involve some of the following concepts:
  • Cognitive/Behavior (used to diminish symptoms by correcting distorted thinking based on negative self-perceptions and expectations),
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT combines cognitive behavioral techniques for emotional regulation and reality testing with concepts of distress tolerance, acceptance and mindfulness),
  • Experiential (activities that help clients access blocked emotions), 
  • Mindfulness (being aware of and paying attention to the present moment)
  • Bibliotherapy (the use of literature to help people cope with problems)
  • Life Force Yoga (simple movement and breathing exercises to help you move into a more balanced and positive emotional, mental and physical state of equanimity and self-awareness)
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of psychotherapy offers a clear, non-pathologizing, and empowering method of understanding human problems, as well as an innovative and enriching philosophy of practice that invites both therapist and client to enter into a transformational relationship in which healing can occur

These methods help you access and face your emotional/mental reactions and tap into your strengths. I listen carefully and am skilled at asking questions that can help you to see yourself more clearly and begin to pay precise attention to your thoughts and feelings. This is the wisdom that guides you in self care, helping you feel more positive and in charge of your life.This work alone can bring great relief, still, practicing new behaviors can break old patterns and help you experience more and more peace, joy and freedom.
